PhD student

Research interests

Maria’s PhD project is titled ”Parental stress and traumatic life events in families with children who are assessed for neurodevelopmental disorders”. The objective of the study is to examine parental stress and traumatic life events in families with children with NDD and to study whether there is any link between parents' own experiences of traumatic life events and the approach they have in their parenting. Experiencing stress as a parent may heavily impact parenthood and may determine the interaction between parent and child. We already know that early detection and intervention can make a difference, but in order to provide families with tailored support, there is a need for deeper knowledge about risk and protective factors, as well as the connection between various types of difficulties.

Maria is a licensed psychologist and she does clinical work at a child psychiatric clinic. Since 2017 she is also a PhD student at the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre.
