JONATHAN DELAFIELD-BUTT

PROFIL

Jonathan Delafield-Butt är lektor i barnutveckling och chef för Laboratory for Innovation in Autism (laboratoriet för innovation inom autism) vid University of Strathclyde. Hans tvärvetenskapliga team kombinerar elektroteknik/elektronikteknik, biomedicinsk teknik, barnpsykologi, barnpsykiatri och pedagogik för att utveckla kroppsnära och smart spelteknik för barn med autism och utvecklingsneurologiska funktionsnedsättningar. Hans forskning driver fram kunskap om de förkroppsligade och affektiva grunderna till barnpsykologisk utveckling, med särskilt fokus på en subtil men betydande motorisk störning vanligt förekommande vid autismspektrumtillstånd. Hans grupp ägnar sig för närvarande åt en stor diagnostisk prövning av en typ av iPad-assisterad utvärdering som tillämpats vid GNC i Göteborg och i Skottland. Delafield-Butt disputerade i utvecklingsrelaterad neurovetenskap vid Edinburghs universitet, fortsatte sedan med utvecklingspsykologi vid Edinburghs respektive Köpenhamns universitet, och erhöll stipendier vid Harvard Medical School och Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (Institutet för avancerade studier inom humaniora) i Edinburgh för filosofiska studier rörande kropp–själproblemet. Han genomgick preklinisk utbildning i psykoanalytisk psykoterapi vid Scottish Institute for Human Relations (skotska institutet för mänskliga relationer) och är medlem i World Association for Infant Mental Health (globala förbundet för små barns mentala hälsa) och International Society for Autism Research (Internationella samfundet för autismforskning). Hans arbete finansieras av ESRC, ESPRC, Carnegie Trust, Royal Society of Edinburgh, Capita, skotska regeringen, generösa donationer, och även genom ett EU H2020-pris tilldelat via uppstartsföretaget Harimata. Vid GNC lär han sig om konceptet ESSENCE och dess implikationer i hanteringen av utvecklingsneurologiska funktionsnedsättningar, för att på så sätt kunna utveckla roliga och minimalt invasiva datoriserade bedömningsverktyg för utvärdering av motoriska färdigheter hos spädbarn och småbarn.
